Garments
Garments lose compression with wear, with washing, and if your body size changes, so one can need replacing sooner than you expect. Your care team decides when yours is due. Many people are given two sets so one can be worn while the other is washed.

Scar massage

5:00
Your care team will tell you when your skin is ready for massage, and how to do it.

Movement

0today
Your care team decides what movement is right for you, and when. This only counts the times you did it.

Photograph healing over time. Photos are stored only on this device and nothing is uploaded. You can share one yourself whenever you want to, and they never appear on a milestone card.

Take each photo in the same spot and light, from the same distance, so they are easier to compare.

Support & resources

Links open the organization's own site or phone line, so the details are always current.

Salve is a self-management companion, not medical advice. Always follow the wound care, garment, and therapy instructions given by your burn care team. If a wound shows signs of infection, contact your care team immediately.

How Salve works

How does the wear timer work?

Tap Start wearing when your garment goes on, and Pause when it comes off. Salve adds up the time and compares it to your daily goal. It keeps counting even after you close the app.

What does 'goal days in the last 30' mean?

It counts how many of the last 30 days you reached your daily wear goal. A missed day is simply not counted and drops out of the window after 30 days, so the number never jumps to zero. Days marked estimated do not count until you correct them. Some days the garment has to come off, and that is fine.

What does the massage log count?

Each completed session adds one to today's count and to your lifetime total. The timer length is just a default you can change in Settings.

How are milestones counted?

From the injury or surgery date you set, Salve counts the days and marks the common milestones. The numbers are yours to keep.

Where is my data, and can I back it up?

Everything is stored on this device. Open Settings to export a backup you can save or move to a new phone.

What are the heatmap and weekly bars?

On Milestones, the last five weeks show as small squares and the last seven days as bars, both shaded by how much of your daily goal you wore. Empty days stay neutral, never marked in red.

How does the garment tracker work?

Tap New on a garment when you start a fresh one, and Salve counts the days since. Compression fades with wear, so it is a reminder to check in with your care team about replacing it, not a fixed schedule.

Can I fix a wrong count?

Yes. Use the minus and plus buttons to adjust today's wear time if you forgot to tap Start or Pause, and the small plus or minus by the massage log to add or remove a session. Nothing is locked in. To fix an earlier day, tap it on the Milestones heatmap.

Your privacy

Salve has no account and no server. Your timers, journal photos, and notes are kept on this device and the app never uploads them. A backup or photo you choose to share goes only where you send it.

  • No account, no sign-in.
  • No ads and no analytics.
  • Photos are never uploaded and never appear on a milestone card. You can send one yourself if you want to, and that is always your choice.

Questions for your care team

Everyone's recovery is different, so the best answers come from your own burn team. Here are good questions to bring to your next visit.

  • How many hours a day should I wear my compression garment?
  • How should my scar feel, and when should I be concerned?
  • How should I do my scar massage, and how often?
  • When can my skin be in the sun, and how should I protect it?
  • What can I do about itching or tightness?
  • When can I return to work, exercise, or swimming?
  • What signs should I call you about?
  • Are there specialists (OT, PT, counseling) I should see?
  • Garments & coverage
  • Does my plan cover replacement compression garments, and how often?
  • Do I need a new prescription or referral for replacement garments?
  • Which garment suppliers are in-network for my plan?
  • Is custom-fit compression covered, or only off-the-shelf?
  • What paperwork do you need to send for my coverage or claim?

The long middle

The hardest part of burn recovery is often the long middle, after the hospital, when progress is slow and mostly invisible. Wearing a garment for months and doing daily massage is quiet, tiring work.

Plateaus and hard days are common. If you want to talk with someone who has been through it, Phoenix Society runs peer support for burn survivors, and the Support tab lists organizations for your region.
